The FT-991A doesn't seem like a meaningful upgrade from the FT-450D, so I've further narrowed it down to: Icom IC-7300 - £1200. Yaesu FTDX3000 - £1300. Yaesu FTDX10 - £1550. The dials are in better places now on the 710, for example. I like my FTDX10 but don't use all the features and wish it had better ergonomics, and was a bit cheaper. So the 710 sounds good. At least as good as a 7300. It's no hybrid but it is a newer SDR design. Only downside is Icom have superior menus in my opinion. One of the comments made in that video is that the FT-DX10's A/D is "audio grade" as opposed to the "much more expensive A/D" in the 710. I'm still puzzled over the advantage of one technology over the other. The DX10 seems to be the better radio now, but perhaps a firmware update in the 710 could really make it awesome.
