No, the resistor will easily come off and rep-connect. Just trace the red/back from the resistor and you'll find it plugs into the fan motor. That is the easiest part of this repair, the splicing of wires is the hardest. As smith mentioned, pay attention to the wire order so you don't do what I did first.
