Lincoln sp 125 plus problems.

Need some help with my "new to me" welder. I am having problems with my welder, its a Lincoln SP250 welder (ditigal version). I am getting a lot of sticking and "blast off" with weld porosity. The weld are are narrow and ropy, the gun are "kicking" back at me. I changed the liner, tip and nozzle. Plenty of extra length--easy to cut-to-length with side cutters. The 10-24 set screw that holds the original liner in place was too long for the new liner so I substituted a shorter one.

I have a Lincoln 135 Pro that I use all the time for sheetmetal. Works great, on the smaller stuff no problem. If you have the power, and the dough, go bigger, but if you have a 1927 house like me, with 120 wiring, its a good machine. 02-23-2004, 07:56 PM. Use your eyes ,nose and hands to locate the problem. First Turn the machine on. Can you hear the transformer hum? if you can the problem is in the secondary wiring . IF you can not hear the transformer hum the problem is in the primary power side.

I have an SP135+, a slightly newer version of the 125+. It usually feeds OK but every once in a while it will go in fits and starts. The problem is usually too much pressure on the nut (maybe a wing nut) that holds the wire spool in place. Also make sure that your drive roll tension is not to much, enough to move the wire but not enough to push it when you have the wire held at the gun.Cleanliness in a wirefeed insures problem free usability.
